Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Nino Tsatsiashvili as well as the representatives of the Department for Human Rights Protection and Investigation Quality Monitoring and Tbilisi Police Department paid a study visit to Strasbourg.
Within the frames of the visit, European Court of Human Rights’ Judge –Lado Tchanturia, lawyers of the same court and experts of the Council of Europe discussed standards of prohibition of torture, degrading and inhumane treatment, tackled the existing recommendations in the field of juvenile justice and importance of ensuring juvenile-oriented environment. Meeting participants also discussed domestic and gender-based violence, mechanisms for regulating hate crimes and speech as well as issues connected to human trafficking.
On the same meeting, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Nino Tsatsiashvili reviewed the progress achieved by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, existing challenges and planned activities with regard to gender-based and domestic violence, hate crimes and juvenile justice. Deputy Minister made a special emphasis on the successful cooperation existing between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Council of Europe and expressed hopes for continuation of the same practice in the future.
The study visit to the Council of Europe was held within the frames of the project-“Support of the Juvenile and Adult Convicts”.
